How Martial Arts Scholarships Invest in the Future of Training

Individual doing martial arts at JMAC in Ann Arbor
Many lessons in martial arts come from seminars, a chance meeting with a visiting teacher, or a training trip a student almost couldn't make happen.

Martial arts scholarships make those moments possible for many students.

How We Approach Scholarship Giving

We provide scholarships to students that are guided by a few consistent principles:

  • Sincerity and consistency of practice
  • Responsible stewardship of every dollar granted
  • long-term view of a student's relationship to the art

Rooted in Direct Experience

Our Foundation arose out of the Japanese Martial Arts Center in Ann Arbor and is guided by practitioners who understand the importance of experiences outside the dojo.

That grounding shapes every martial arts scholarship we award. Not just a one-time gift, but rather an investment in a student's long-term training.

Scholarships That Create Opportunities for Martial Arts Students

Martial arts scholarship information with a blurred background
Every so often, a dedicated student who’s trained for years reaches out describing an opportunity they can't quite afford. Typically, it’s a seminar a few states over, a weekend intensive with a teacher, or a trip to Japan.

Martial arts scholarships can step in to ease the financial burden.

A Familiar Barrier

Financial burden is a common barrier for martial arts students. It’s also one that our Foundation was created to offset.

Through generous donations, we’re able to provide:

  • Travel and lodging for an out-of-state seminar
  • Registration or tuition for an intensive
  • Time away from work that makes travel harder to justify
  • And more…

For martial arts students and practitioners seeking more out of their practice.

More Than Financial Relief

A martial arts scholarship covers costs, but the impact goes much further.

It signals that discipline doesn’t go unnoticed, and that there’s a supportive community willing to do what it takes to deepen your training.

Founder Nicklaus Suino's own decades of training were shaped by teachers who opened doors for him along the way — the same instinct behind every scholarship our Foundation awards today.
